We have completed the construction of Galigrain’s liquid bulk facility at the Outer Port of Punta Langosteira, which has a total storage capacity of approximately 17,000 cubic meters.
Galigrain, which already operated a solid bulk plant at the Outer Port of Punta Langosteira, recently commissioned another facility dedicated to liquid bulk storage.
“Both form an important complex with products for animal feed, serving as a source to supply feed factories in Galicia, northern Portugal, Asturias, and Castile and León,” explains Ignacio López, advisor to Galigrain.
The new facility occupies an area of 4,500 square meters and has been operational since November, when it received its first vessel, which arrived in Langosteira loaded with 5,000 tons of vegetable oil that was unloaded at these facilities.
In total, the storage capacity of this “innovative facility” is approximately 17,000 cubic meters. This capacity is distributed among a dozen tank storage units: five for molasses—two of 750 cubic meters, two of 2,000, and one of 1,500—, another five for palm oil, each with a capacity of 1,500 cubic meters, and two more for fatty acids, totaling an additional 500 cubic meters.
“They are insulated, as are the pipes, and equipped with systems to control the internal temperature; it is a very modern installation,” highlights Salvador Cordero, Operations Director at Herpasa Inoxilos, the company responsible for the plant’s construction, which is currently also working on another industrial facility in the Arteixo area.
In addition to the tank storage and pipes, a small building was constructed to serve as a control room for loading and unloading operations. This is managed using specialized software for valve control.
The investment made by Galigrain in this new infrastructure amounts to approximately 5 million euros and is the result of the relocation and expansion of the facilities that Oleosilos de Galicia previously had at the Calvo Sotelo dock.
